修士課程を独立させてある（そのため、おそらく博士課程が日本の博士課程と同じようなカリキュラム）について、ＵＳ ＮＥＷＳのディスカッショングループの過去の書き込みに以下のように載っていました。（引用）Most top 10 schools don't have masters only phd programs. The best schools that have masters are Boston Univeristy, Univ of Texas - Austin, Michigan - Ann Arbor, New York University. It is often hard to get fincianal aid at these schools for masters. A better chance to get aid for a masters would be to go to a top Canadian school. The top 4 are Univ of Toronto, Univ of British Columbia, Univ of Western Ontario and Queens University. I think that there is a much better chance for aid here, and still get a high quality degree. There are many foreign students in the US and Canada in Econ, so I would not worry about that. （以上）
書いてあるように、トロントやクイーンズなどのカナダの大学は博士課程と修士を切り離すのが一般的なようですが、アメリカでは少ないようです。ただ、アメリカの上位校の学生のＣＶなどを見ると、ＬＳＥなどで修士を取ってから入学している方も多く見受けられますし、修士を持ってるのが受験の際に有利に働くことがあるかも知れないですね。
